Tha H2O For PC

Tha Holder Stuff

BORRIS was a project I decided to persue while in Fiji because I was bored and had the desire to create a server that wouldn't overheat in summer. This I did and what you read in the next few pages are just what I did. If you take ideas from this, that's fine. But please don't try to use this as a "how-to" guide. I take no responsibility for what YOU do to YOUR computer because I think everything I do here will void your warranty. So...

Obviously you need to obtain your handles before you start pulling your computer apart. AND it might be easiest to take a photo of your computer case down to the local hardware store when you decide to pick the handle to suit.

When you have decided which one you want then FIRST, look at how it is suppose to attach and then check that it will attach to your PC the way you think BEFORE YOU BUY IT. An important point is that computer cases are WEEK and only at the joints do they have any strength in the metal. So, lets begin.

STEP 1.

Learn from my mistake... TAKE YOUR COMPUTER PARTS OUT BEFORE WORKING ON YOUR CASE.

Otherwise you end up replacing motherboards and CPU's after they short out on all the metal shards...

Remove all of it and if you don't understand what plugs go where, take photo's while your going. (Or you could just ask one of your computer-literate friends to help.)

Step 2.

Measure out where and how the handle attaches. For my computer I used a handle that dropped into the case, so I had to remove some of the metal.

Using cardboard, I measured up the size of the handle and where it would fit along with the screw holes.

I transferred this information onto the the case and marked it with a screw driver to see where I had to cut.

Step 3.

Because I couldn't just drill one hole and hack saw out the square of metal AND I'm too lazy to do anything else, I drilled holes all the way along the inside of the square I had to remove.

Carefully without cutting myself I then used a file to join the holes and remove the square sheet of metal.

As you can see here, the handle at the front of the case is bigger than the hole I have cut out. So that I can still put screws into the case form the handle.

Step 4.

I then used a "bastard file" to remove the sharp edges and bring the square to an almost strait shape.

Laying the handle in, it fit like a glove. :-)

I always was good at metal work.

Step 5

I then drilled the holes through the handle and mounted the bolts in. It ended up I had to file the sites of the handle a little but the overall installation was quite simple and looked good at the end.

You might notice that over the next few pages, the photo's all look different. I went through three different digital cameras during the making of BORRIS.

Please, continue to read on and see how I installed the water cooling in BORRIS.
